Leading People: Leading, Not Managing People

Workers who are over-managed feel controlled and often lack motivation. This training video teaches managers how leading people is more effective than managing people.

Managers tend to monitor the daily work of those they manage. They often do this through a four-step process of planning, organizing, measuring, and controlling tasks. This management model is based on an organizational hierarchy separating members by position and department. On the other hand, leaders motivate others towards a common goal. They do this through building relationship networks, coaching and mentoring. Leaders encourage collaboration throughout the organization.

Viewers are shown how leaders delegate responsibilities and maintain a balance between task-oriented and people-oriented leadership. Leaders lead by example and enable others to be successful by providing opportunities for development along with the resources needed to achieve goals.
