Overview

After decades of study and research, professionals began to recognize an individual’s IQ was not enough to determine their professional success. In 1990, psychologists John Mayer and Peter Salovey published an article called Emotional Intelligence, (EQ) which explained how people with a higher EQ were better able to recognize their emotions and regulate them as they worked towards their goals. This introductory online training course is the first in a series about EQ. This course explains how everyone can strengthen their emotional Intelligence, which is made up of four parts: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management.

Self-awareness is the ability to identify the emotions one is experiencing and is the first step in making one’s EQ stronger. As an individual’s awareness grows, they can learn to manage their reactions in ways that are more conducive to achieving productive goals.

Viewers learn how the next part, social awareness, requires listening and observing which enables one to understand the emotions of others. Relationship management is the ability to put all the information together in order to work more effectively with others. This course also explains the benefits of cultivating EQ.
