Good drivers manage the space all around their vehicles. Most collisions occur when a driver follows too closely, so managing the space ahead of the vehicle is of utmost importance.
This Video On Demand provides clear guidelines for determining how much distance is required based on speed and vehicle length. It also explains how to deal with tailgating. Tips for managing space on each side of the truck are offered, and techniques for preventing right-turn crashes and safely making left turns are explained. Drivers are reminded to consider the space beneath their trucks, which can be impeded by railroad tracks, drainage culverts and roadway obstructions.
Knowing the height of your vehicle, paying attention to overhead clearance signs, and checking for overhead obstructions before backing up round out this training video’s offerings and encourages safer driving practices.
