Many accidents happen because drivers don’t look properly before changing lanes or coming to a stop. It’s important for truck drivers to know what is going on around the vehicle. This safety training video shows drivers how to look out for traffic, explains how to use your mirrors, and illustrates how to use signals and warning devices.
In the section about looking, viewers learn drivers should look ahead to the distance they will travel in 12 to 15 seconds before making a move. This is about one block at lower speeds, and about a quarter of a mile at higher speeds. Drivers should look for traffic coming onto the highway or into your lane, or turning, and watch for brake lights of slowing vehicles. Looking far enough ahead gives drivers time to safely change lanes or speeds.
The information in this course is not only practical; it has the same information needed to pass the written test for the commercial driver’s license.
