This Video On Demand training discusses the types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) individuals should use when working with hazardous substances. The proper use of PPE and correct decontamination procedures help prevent health issues from arising and keep individuals safe while working with hazardous materials.
There are four levels of PPE clothing, spanning from Level A to Level D. Level A is for the most severe exposure to hazardous materials; Level D is for the least severe. Level A PPE clothing consists of an encapsulating suit, work boots, respiratory air breathing apparatus, and gloves. PPE can be extremely warm and cumbersome, potentially causing heat stress. The course covers symptoms of heat-related illnesses and suggests techniques for prevention. The importance of each step in the decontamination process is demonstrated and explained.
The video points out the importance of training and getting used to one's PPE clothing. It can be dangerous to the worker and those around him/her if they do not know how to move freely in their PPE clothing. Help workers understand the importance of PPE and how to utilize the equipment correctly so it provides the protection needed to complete job tasks effectively and safely.
This course has been updated to include GHS container labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for GHS compliance.
