30% of all CMV accidents happen when the driver is backing up. However, most backing accidents are preventable! This safety training course teaches safe alley backing practices and techniques.
Drivers who are unsure or unfamiliar with where they are backing into should get out of the cab and look at their surroundings. The trucking industry calls this GOAL: Get Out And Look. Drivers should inspect all six sides of the truck, which are the front, the rear, both sides, as well as above and below to check clearance.
Alley dock backing is when the driver has no choice but to back into a dock at an angle. Straight line backing is when the driver can back straight into a dock. Viewers learn the importance of having an experienced “spotter“ when needed, and of always using the side mirrors, and, when available, a backup camera.
Use this safety training course to demonstrate the essential practices for alley dock backing and parking.
