It’s simple physics, the higher you are when you fall, the more damage you will do to yourself. To help prevent this damage, which can be fatal, you must properly use a personal fall arrest system. This concise training course demonstrates how to correctly use a personal fall arrest system to survive a fall, with minimal injury, should one occur.
The fall arrest device consists of three main components: an anchor point, a connecting device, and a full body harness. Each is integral to the successful operation of the system. OSHA has set guidelines that state an anchor point and connecting device must be able to support 5,000 pounds of dead weight per person. There are several kinds of connecting devices this course explores, all of which must be equipped with a double-locking snap hook. Of course, the connecting device’s strength rating depends of proper use. This course demonstrates the proper use of personal fall arrest systems, as well as several other key elements to keeping you safe; including how to limit your fall distance, how to prevent common fall arrest mistakes, and how to prevent sudden stop injuries.
Depending on your industry, working at heights is inevitable. With this comes inherent risks of serious injury or even death. However, with the proper equipment and knowledge, those risks can be drastically reduced. Utilize the information presented here and learn how to properly use your fall arrest system and to survive an otherwise potentially deadly fall.
