Treating fellow employees with respect and understanding contributes to a productive and professional workplace. However, inappropriate comments, jokes, language, and photographs can undermine a positive work environment. Harassment based on sex, race, religion, age, disability or other legally-protected characteristics can create a hostile work environment and interfere with an employee's ability to perform their job. Actions that are humiliating, defaming, offensive or intimidating can be forms of workplace harassment, and examples are demonstrated in this Video On Demand training.
A supervisor's or managers' offers of advancement, job security, or a positive performance review in exchange for sexual favors is prohibited, as is punishing an employee for refusing a sexual advance. This video shows woman, as well as men, can be perpetrators of harassing behavior, and how same-sex harassment can be a workplace problem. Employees learn how to respond to harassment directed at them or their coworkers, while avoiding a verbal or physical altercation. The importance of reporting harassing behavior is addressed. This course illustrates precautions to prevent one's own behavior from being construed as harassment.
Every employee has a right to be free of harassment or sexual harassment in the workplace, and this video demonstrates harassing behaviors, the right way to respond to those behaviors, the need to report harassment, and holds up a mirror so employees can evaluate their own behaviors. This is an excellent way to educate employees about their rights and responsibilities to ensure a workplace free from harassment.
