Overview

Laboratory workers need to be protected from exposure to hazardous chemicals, among other potential dangers in the lab. This safety training course teaches workers how to identify hazards, the importance of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), and other laboratory safety topics.

Viewers learn about the two main sources for finding hazardous chemicals information: the label on the container, and safety data sheets (SDS). If the chemical is hazardous, the label will include, among other things, precautionary or hazardous statements. Laboratories are required to maintain safety data sheets about each chemical for lab workers to access and review.

This course explains how PPE protects lab workers from injury or exposure to chemicals and prevents contamination. For example, lab coats protect workers from minor spills and splashes, and safety glasses and face shields should be worn when there is a possibility of flying debris or chemical splashes.

Viewers also learn about laboratory fume hoods, how to prevent contamination, safety equipment, emergency response, waste disposal, and handling glassware.

Complete this safety training course for practical ways to make the laboratory a safe place to work.
